What a DMA card is and why you need one

A DMA card is an FPGA board that reads the memory of a second computer directly over PCIe — no drivers, and nothing running on the gaming machine itself. To that machine it is an ordinary device on the bus, which is the whole point: the load and the traces stay on the second computer.

How to choose a card

• FPGA size. 35T covers the basics, 75T is the all-round choice, and a 100T on Artix-7 leaves room for heavier firmware and future updates.
• Firmware compatibility. The board and its firmware are chosen together: ACE, BattlEye, EAC and Vanguard each need their own build.
• Slot and power. Check for a free PCIe slot and that the board fits the second PC's case.
• Cable and port. The card needs the right cable to the gaming PC; the kits already account for it.

What you need alongside the card

A board alone is not a setup: video from the gaming computer goes through a fuser, mouse and keyboard through Makcu, and the second computer is usually a compact Mini PC. Starting from scratch, look at the ready kits — everything in them already works together.
